Spring Break 2010 - Road Trip to Louisiana

We enjoyed a wonderful road trip to Louisiana and back during Spring Break, 2700 miles in all!

We drove from Delaware to Louisiana with our pop-up camper, stopping along the way in Virginia, Tennessee, and Mississippi.  We passed the time in the car with an amazing audio book, Incarceron, the first book in an original new teen fantasy series (you can read my review here).  As always, we enjoyed some good food stops recommended by Roadfood and Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.

Ken and the boys enjoyed fishing at this pretty lake in our campground at Melton Mill Dam in Tennessee (but didn't catch anything...yet).

The next day, we stopped at Ruby Falls on Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga, TN.  We enjoyed a nice cave tour, but the highlight was a 145 foot waterfall, located 1,120 feet underground!  We've been to many caves on our various road trips, but this is the first time we've ever seen an underground waterfall.  Very cool. It's hard to see, but the waterfall is behind us in this photo of the four of us - it's tough to get good pictures underground!

During our last night of the journey south, we stayed at a campground near Hattiesburg, Mississippi.  We enjoyed a quiet Easter morning in the camper.  The Easter Bunny found us way down here (though, in hindsight, maybe chocolate wasn't the best choice for a southern road trip).  After a nice Sunday breakfast, we continued south, with the goal of arriving in southern Louisiana in time for Easter lunch at a well-recommended restaurant before it closed at 2 pm...
