We arrived in our favorite city (where we lived in the 80’s) Friday evening and had dinner at one of our old favorite restaurants, Deanie’s in Bucktown (there’s also one in the French Quarter now). This is the place to go for great seafood! There was a long wait so we sat at the bar and enjoyed chatting with locals. My husband got their famous fried seafood platter, and I had broiled catfish and shrimp. Both were absolutely delicious! Best shrimp I’ve had in years 🦐🦐🦐

Saturday, we started the day at the best breakfast and brunch place in the area (about a dozen locations now): Ruby Slipper. Read about its history on the sign behind my husband. Fabulous, creative food! My husband had the 3 Little Pigs omelet with grits (his favorite), and I had mix-and-match Bennie’s (eggs Benedict). Both were delicious!

Next, we wandered around the French Quarter a bit, went into some bookstores and galleries, and had lunch at The Gumbo Shop - a bit touristy but excellent food. A great place to get authentic local food, like jambalaya, red beans and rice, and of course, gumbo!

We met some old friends for dinner at another favorite spot, R&O’s in Bucktown. Great for boiled shrimp and crawfish (which is what we had) and the best muffulettas in town!

We finally returned to the camper, tired and full!
